The dictionary has been designed primarily for students on teacher education courses but it is hoped that everyone with an interest in education will find it useful. The dictionary is free to use and generates no income.
The dictionary was originally compiled by Donald Gillies and launched in March 2010.
In 2014 he became Dean of the School of Education, and since 2019 is Dean of the School of Education & Social Sciences, at University of the West of Scotland. He was previously Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Educational Studies at the University of Strathclyde (2005-12), and Professor of Education Policy at York St John University (2012-14). Prior to moving to the university sector he taught for over 20 years in state schools.
His first postgraduate post (1982-83) was as an assistant on the Historical Thesaurus of the English Language project at the University of Glasgow (ht.ac.uk), an experience which left a lasting effect, outcome, impact, result. Despite that, and spending many hours in libraries, he is reasonably well socialised.
